Pommy’s Pizza

Tough one this. There’s a pizza renaissance happening in Brighton right now and Pommy’s is one leading the charge. There is no argument that a slice of Pommy’s pizza is amazing – pepperoni with freshly shaved parmesan and hot honey, crispy crust: genuinely incredible. I still haven’t worked out if I want to go back though because a) that slice was £4.50 and b) the actual place is brutalist, not somewhere to hang out and have a nice meal. Still, will probably try at least another slice!

Verdict: Awesome

Amici

The restaurant is pleasant and the service friendly, but easily the worst Italian food I’ve been served – and such a nasty surprise when there are so many wonderful and reliable Italians in our city. Soggy pizza and totally weird flavoured tomato penne. They took the latter off as I mentioned it, but won’t ever go back.

Verdict: Don’t go

Babble

A new and substantial entry in the small category of true beachfront in Brighton. Interesting shape means LOADS of tables where you can be looking out over the sea, which is great. Pretty nice food too, with generous portions, and a good selection of booze.

Verdict: Awesome

The Meeting Place Kitchen

The Meeting Place has been around since we moved here (I think?), to start with a shack on the beach for coffees and light bites – didn’t warrant a review. But they’ve totally redone, rebuilt and expanded it to join the very small list of true beachfront restaurants in Brighton. We got lucky with a table and the food was good – generous portions, very reasonable pricing for the location (some of a bit cold with uneven serving times though). Genuinely felt like being on holiday and will be back.

Twisted Lemon

Cool little cocktail bar – had one that was set on fire so that’s fun. Priced very reasonably for cocktails, especially with a good happy hour. But service very slow, and I don’t think just because of the time to make cocktails…but that’s just what you have to deal with at cocktail bars!

Verdict: Awesome (if you must go for cocktails)

Curio

A fairly tiny but cute cafe; only had a takeaway honey toast thing. But moved to write a post about it as it was frankly incredible, so I expect the rest will be grand too!
