The missus booked here thinking we’d been before but that was the Cricketers next door – and this pub is great! Massive portions, big space, overall a fan!

I have a lot of time for a pub like the Sussex, it’s spacious and relaxed, but a bit tired. The food is basic and fine, the prices excellent. It’s just not very snazzy.

Another venture from the Pond and Easy Tiger people, both of which we like a lot. Easy Tiger is more a resto that happens to be a pub, the Pond a fancy pub with a specialty menu. The Star & Garter is more of a boozer with a specialty menu; it’s rather close and loud in there with any amount of people. But really went there for the “Detroit style” pizza, deep dish stuff. Worth a try, and I thought the toppings were delicious, but it does get rather bready. Loaded fries not so much my bag but my companion enjoyed. Overall, something different but I wouldn’t go again.

Having passed this many times but never gone in, I had a glass of wine in here and it’s so nice! Way more substantial than you would expect, with a massive vaulted skylight ceiling in the back. Food menu looks ok but can confirm a charming place.

Nice cosy pub, had a good burger, good gastro type menu.

Seen it so many times and finally went in for a drink and a meal. It is HUGE and easily the largest pub I’ve ever been in (I think?), and that extends to a large outdoor area. Furnishing is pretty basic, small plates pretty decent for the price (very good chorizo and surprisingly good tempura cauliflower). It’s only not Awesome because I think for the money they want the ambience and quality’s not quite there.

Hard one to call, the layout of this one is so-so, odd tables and it is very dark. Alberta’s sub sandwich concession is really good for subs and fries, but surprisingly average for wings. So I think net net, it was just ok.

I’d been into The Eagle a couple of times but this came to my attention food wise when it started winning awards (most recently 2024 best pub food apparently). The pub itself is perfectly nice but nothing dramatically special, but the Thai food from Namo does really deserve the awards, and at a great price. Spicy pork rice was amazing and everything was top notch.

An unusual one this, in a modern block of flats; massive high ceilings, loads of space – which I definitely like. Nice looking food menu although only had fries; only mark against it is the pint prices are pretty rough.
Verdict: Awesome

Surprisingly small little pub offering Indian street food. It’s very tasty, although don’t make the mistake of trying to eat just small plates. You really want to have one of their mains and maybe a couple of small plates. But delicious, and lovely people.
