Tiny reviews of Brighton food and drink
Cool little cocktail bar – had one that was set on fire so that’s fun. Priced very reasonably for cocktails, especially with a good happy hour. But service very slow, and I don’t think just because of the time to make cocktails…but that’s just what you have to deal with at cocktail bars!
Verdict: Awesome (if you must go for cocktails)

Have wanted to go here for YEARS since the conceit is they have retro phones on each table which you use to order your drinks. Just went in for one on a Friday night, they will make you share a table if there’s just two of you and it gets busy, but that’s fair enough. Nice cosy vibe, bustling but you can hear each other pretty well. And had an amazing jaffa cake gin!

Nice, open, relaxed cocktail bar, which wins a lot of points for a large chunk of the menu being £8 Mon-Thurs. Lots of food too but didn’t try that this time!

Passed by many times and have had a conventional drink in here once, but this time went for cocktails. And they were super amazing, proper showman style stuff and well worth a go – nice table service too. Keen to try the resto now!

A really cool potion themed bar. While you can theoretically just walk in and have a drink, the main draw is the potion “experience” where you get a welcome drink from a mythical beast, then make two – quite involved! – potion drinks for yourself, interacting with some neat little props on your table using your wand. Well worth a go!

Odd to rate this, because they rate themselves on cocktails and brunch. Went for neither – had a beer of an evening. But I liked the people and the venue, and 2 cocktails for £10 really good for that area. Want to try their brunch!

A weird one! A relatively small casino, but only about half of it is casino, the 2nd floor being a massive open space with a huge screen, tables etc with a bar, food and pool and other tables. Went on a Tuesday: dead empty. The drinks reasonably priced, the food pretty good; the pool etc really, really expensive. I’d love to see it busy but for now, more casino than otherwise (ie a bit depressing).

The Set took over the Cocktail Shack in Regency Square and this is the result. While the Cocktail Shack was amazing and unique, The Fix is just a generic bar, with a decent menu but just not exciting in any way.

Bison started as a craft beer shop in the Lanes, and recently opened their second location which is a bar and bottleshop, so falls under our remit. As a shop, it’s excellent for craft beer, wide range, great service. For me, as a bar, not great – really, it’s a shop with a couple of tables in it. Fine, but not a place to hang out.
Verdict: Ok

Part of the chain of course, but it’s a nice big one with really great service.
