Little cafe on Palmeira Square. Not fancy, but nice and cosy, with simple seating but plenty of it, and simple fare at a good price. Nice for a crumpet or a sandwich.
Verdict: Ok

I’ve been to one of these up north but was taken here to have a chateaubriand as the search for fantastic steak continues. At £65 for two (including sides) it should really be memorable, but instead it was just ok. If I had it for £20 a head, fine, but it wasn’t! Staff were helpful but this is very much a hotel restaurant – just ok.

Burger place, a couple of notches above super casual but a nice relaxed vibe. Plenty of room, fantastic service, and impressed with the burgers. Personally had never had a burger with a strong cheddar in it and it worked really well – chips great as well, and the price point is excellent.

I’m told that this is THE place to be if you like your coffee, like really like it. On the other hand, I don’t drink coffee, so instead it’s a cramped place with outrageously overpriced, middling quality food.

Really nice new cafe in the Lanes with a lovely interior. Only had takeaway though – amazing bacon and egg pastry thing, incredible chocolate twist, freshly made. Only points off for being pretty expensive, but then, it’s the Lanes.

Lovely little cafe right by the playground by the sea. Had a bang tidy breakfast – one cooked, one granola – with drinks for like £16, so a bargain in a great place with lovely service.

Not really a cafe but a deli, and it’s full of amazing things. I had a bacon and cheese wrap and an intense peanut butter brownie which I would highly recommend. But they have all sorts of olives and such and will be coming back!

Fairly large Italian, one of three in a very close vicinity. Clearly a proper authentic Italian place run by Italians, which is great; service however wasn’t great, things being forgotten and apologies not forthcoming. However, outweighed by exceptional food – amazing meatballs, gnocchi and one of the best chocolate mousses I’ve ever had. Just don’t be in a hurry – will be interesting to see the other Italians in the area.
Massive cheery cafe attached to the Emmaus Emporium which is awesome itself. Super cheap food and happy staff, might not be the absolute best eggs ever but with a full English for £5.75 you can’t go wrong.
