The Rose Hill Tavern

Looking at the web results for this, there was a heroic effort to save this pub from developers for the community (ed: see comment below). Power to them, but as a result I guess it feels like walking into someone else’s house. Could be funky and cool, instead you feel like you’re intruding. I feel bad for saying so but the staff can’t be bothered either; best go to a real pub.

The Breakfast Club

Chain this one, but the Brighton location is lovely and big with brilliant booths etc. Huge breakfast menu does not disappoint. I had Ham So Eggsited, which wins on name alone, but is a pancake stack with ham and egg and maple syrup. Yum.

Dum Dum Donutterie

Specialist donut shop with a huge range of different flavours which is a bonus. Both donuts and croughnuts – had a chocolate praline croughnut and it was awesome.

Brighton Chippy

Initially: Standard chippy, but just ok; chips a little dry. Superior options available.

Revised: I don’t know if they changed ownership or what, but the guy is a total legend and I think the crispy crunchy fish is probably the second best I’ve ever had.

Verdict: Awesome

Wahaca

A chain, sure, but a nice big site without the mad London queues. Set menu excellent!

The Druid’s Head

Perfectly serviceable but unremarkable Taylor Walker/Greene King pub; not pots of atmosphere (despite the atmospheric-looking exterior), just a standard well-lit chain pub.

Verdict: Ok

The Old Bank Steak & Ribs

A simple interior but with comfy booths if you’re lucky, and lovely service. A steak was had and was delicious, but the famous ribs, well, deserve to be famous. Really excellent BBQ sauce and tasty chips. Also, Monday is all you can eat ribs and wings, and the wings were pretty great too. All of which comes for not much money at all. Brilliant.

Tropical Sushi at Oseta Cafe

Latin-Japanese fusion pop-up, evenings at Oseta Cafe. Actually insanely good, sushi with Latin influences like plantains on top or mango drizzle. Quite apart from that, just made with incredible care and lovely presentation. Tops.

Heart & Hand

Small and cosy little pub with stained glass windows, lots of tables, and home-made vodka shots. Resident cat too although I didn’t see it!

Touro

All you can eat Brazilian steakhouse where they come to your table with skewers and slice off all sorts. Not all 100% amazing, but loads of them were. Only downside was buffet food to go with it was cold (eg fries) but I just ate more than 10 kinds of meat and was delighted.
